Isola d’Elba: a green oasis in the Tuscan Archipelago

A fascinating holiday to relax through the magic and colours or this real paradise, suspended in the sea a short distance from Tuscany, where the Etruscan and Roman cultures still echo which have shaped the relationship between humans and nature in a unique and admirable way.

The ease of sailing in a catamaran brings back a slow-moving time almost forgotten due to the pace of everyday life and makes us fall into step with the rhythms of the sea and of the wind, staying immersed in the sea-blue of the waves against the backdrop of landscapes which change all the time before our eyes. The geological features of this archipelago are complex and result in an endless palette of natural environments: granite, limestone, ores; they have all been shaped by the weather and by the sea. Crystalline waters are revealed before our eyes, continuously changing their colour which varies between azure, blue and green, as well as a landscape with wild and primeval traits where you can still see the signs of the intimate relationship built by humans and the environment over the millennia, where you can still see traces of the Etruscan landscape, the refined Tuscan population active in trading and culture.

Letting ourselves be guided by the wind, we can choose among many routes and stop wherever fancy takes us. We leave from Portoferraio and sail westwards, crossing Capo Bianco, to Marciana Marina, with its quaint boroughs and granite streets. Here it is worthwhile stopping in the village, to enjoy a taste of Elba cuisine, rich in perfumes and freshness, visiting the restaurants located in well-tended small piazzas, which look like open-air sitting rooms, then in the evening take a romantic walk e la down its alleys. The next morning we sail westwards again, towards the most intact and wild part of Elba. There are many places worth visiting: the peninsula of Enfola and the Bay of Biodola, the Pomonte Remains, until we reach Fetovaia, considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

Continuing our circumnavigation we reach the peninsula of Capoliveri, dominated by the medieval borough, and finally get to Porto Azzurro. This ancient fortified town, dominated by a 17th century fortress, is now a destination for selected and discerning tourism. It is worth walking its streets, stopping in the square, going for a walk along the seafront. Or you can move inland to the Santuario di Monserrato. We then resume sailing in the direction of Portoferraio. During this cruise there will always be a canoe available to explore the coast and admire the seabed from close up.

This cruise is available in the months of April, May, September and October.
